ANGELINA REWRITE MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE

The espionage thriller Edwin A. Salt, originally conceived as a vehicle for the Mission: impossible hero Tom Cruise, is being rewritten by Angelina Jolie, now that Cruise is no longer attached, Variety reports.

Jolie has not yet signed the photo, but she is reportedly near an agreement and the changes are already underway with the hope that all is going as planned. The Bone Collector Helm Philip Noyce will remain directly, but the film, about a CIA agent who is accused of spying for the Russians, will receive a new title.

Obvious.

Cruise-and several other agents-had been eyeing the project, but later fell through Cruise Jolie is the interest that Columbia Pictures has seriously thinking about a rewrite.

And then, what with his earlier success as a gun-toting bad-ass in Mr and Mrs Smith ($ 186 million at the box office) and his latest success with kicks in the ass Wanted ($ 132.6 million), the study should have figured, why not?

Jolie in his next big screen appearance will be in Clint Eastwood's Changeling, in theaters October 24, but this now-untitled thriller conceivable that marks the mother of six returning to moviemaking after the birth of their twins last month.
